I have a lot of GMAT material, and the Veritas books were the last batch of books that I got my hands on. This is considered Round 2 for me in terms of studying for the GMAT. I took it once already but have to retake. One area of weakness for me turned out to be the advanced Critical Reasoning questions. This Veritas book provided a much more robust array of approaches and examples for the more difficult critical reasoning questions. In my opinion it's a must have for anyone looking to increase their verbal score! --Amazon
This book definitely helped me when I was preparing for the GMAT. I think Critical Reasoning is a topic that can intimidate some test takers. This book covers many of the advanced topics that you can expect to face when you are doing well on the verbal section. I think what differentiates this book from its competitors is the way that it makes very difficult concept simple. I initially used the Powerscore guide to help me prep for CR, but what I found with the powerscore guide is that it is too much information and overly complex. Critical Reasoning is about 1/6 of the exam, and the powerscore guide takes too much time to understand and is overly complex. Veritas has tactics to help you remember their strategy so you can apply what they teach you on test day. My verbal score went up by 9 percentile points, and this book was a big part of why my score improved. --Amazon
I self-studied for the GMAT (not the first time) and for some reason I found sentence correction and reading comp to be relatively easy, but couldn't get my head around critical reasoning. A friend of mine took an in-person Veritas course and recommended I get their critical reasoning books. Once I realized how to classify the critical reasoning questions, I began to understand the formulaic steps recommended to solve the questions. The SWIMMER method that Veritas uses makes it so easy to recognize what type of question you are facing and solve from there. My verbal score significantly increased once I figured out critical reasoning. I would recommend this book (and also the other critical reasoning book) to anyone uncertain about how to solve these questions! I am still considering a weekend class, but have made a solid improvement nonetheless. --Amazon

Gives you an edge over the competition

I actually studied most of the Veritas Prep books and it's obviously not enough to study this guide on its own since it's part of a 15 book series, but together with the Critical Reasoning 1 guide it does a really thorough job with that section. I think the Sentence Correction books are solid and the Reading Comprehension is actually really good too, although I would recommend taking what you learn from these books and practice them on the WSJ/Economist or similar since it's hard to get enough practice from GMAT books alone. My only complaint is that these books are a little thin and kind of expensive when you can buy the entire Official Guide for less than the price of one of these.
The most valuable portion of the guide, and why I would still recommend it over other guides, is that you're competing against other people and you need an edge. The strategies give you a structured approach so you're never stuck and my speed per problem increased noticeably; my biggest problem was actually finishing the test on time, but now that's no longer an issue.
I also found that the Veritas Prep strategies changed the way I read everything in daily life. They really make you read and think about everything with a, for lack of a better word, critical eye. Hopefully business school won't make me even more cynical:)

Overall a Must have for Critical Reasoning
