Dr Zahid Siddique is co-founder of Dental Training Consultants, London, UK which runs The DF1 Mock Workshop for year five undergraduate BDS students. As well as currently working as a general dental practitioner, Zahid has a passion for teaching and has delivered lectures entitled Antibiotic Resistance - The Time Bomb and Prescribing in Dentistry. To facilitate his passion for teaching, Zahid was awarded an honorary tutor role at King’s College London Dental Institute and Guy’s Hospital, London, UK and is an examiner for The Royal College of Surgeons of England Overseas Registration Examination.
Dr Shivana Anand is co-founder of Dental Training Consultants, London, UK. Shivana received the Dentistry FMC Fast Track 4 accreditation for innovative new dentists in 2014 and the ‘Dental Prodigy’ award at the BDIA Dental Showcase 2015. She was also shortlisted for the ‘Best Young Dentist’ award at the BDIA Dental Showcase 2015. To facilitate her passion for teaching Shivana was awarded an honorary tutor role at King’s College London Dental Institute and Guy’s Hospital, London, UK.

British Perspective

This relatively short handbook examines the ethical and professional obligations found in dental practices. It is most definitely designed for the health care system of the United Kingdom.. That is a major drawback. However many of the situations and considerations are universal and the dilemmas and challenges presented are worth consideration by any dental professional. the writing is spare and the answers to the questions are succinct. It is interesting but the British perspective may be a deal breaker for some. 3.5 stars.

Solid overall principles, useful although assumes British health care system. (UK book)

I serve as a mentor and external interviewer for prospective students to my alma mater's health science departments. I am an RN but I also assist dental and medical students. There is plenty of universal content here to help dental students understand the ethical and professional obligations of their chosen field. I'd also say that this book is useful to medical and nursing students as well.
The big drawback is the use of U.K. terminology which may not be familiar to American students. The book uses "nurse" when our equivalent would be dental hygienist here in the US. You do need to constantly translate as you read this book. It is a roadblock but not an insurmountable one.

I wish I had read the synopsis more closely for that piece of information because I'm not sure how applicable it would be for dental students in the US.
